Process

Here are a few different case studies and different design options that I like and think would work well with my microbrewery. The bottom is my initial design concept featuring glass curtain walls on the east wall and the first floor of the north wall. Featured on the North wall will be copper distills.

Almost Finished Floor Plans

The are my floor plans starting with the main floor, then the second floor, and last is the basement. The top two floors are almost finished but the basement has room to be expanded. I will have to add a few more mechanical rooms once I figure out the sizes of the HVAC systems

Wall Sections

This are wall sections of the main core of my building. They are composed of concrete with brick on the bottom layer and then glass curtain walls the rest of the way up. The red columns provide support for the roof, which holds up the curtain walls.

Floor Plans

Finally I have a rough set of floor plans that are helping me visualize how my building will work. My focus will now shift to getting a neater/ more finalized set of plans and elevations. The next major challenge for me will be how to design and layout the brick work. It needs to reflect the elegance that the curtain wall core has.

Initial Design Proposal

Out of the previous three design solutions, this seems to be the most favorable. The inspiration behind the design comes straight from the sugar beet. Just like the root/the beet is the featured part, the labs are featured in my design. All circulation throughout the building occurs around the labs. They are sunk down one story into the ground and surrounded by glass so that passerbys can look down and see whats happening.

Well this is my progression from initial thoughts to a more "quality" design. The last two sets of plans are geared more around a sugar beet as I considered how they grow and what the important parts are. I am really liking how the last design is coming along right now. The facility is focused around the labs just as the important part of the beet is the root.

Is there anything about architectural form and transformation that is
implied by the “Machine in the Garden” metaphor, or some other
metaphorical meaning of a “seed germ”?

SEMESTER GOALS

-Time Management
-Sketching
-Revit

This semester I plan on managing my time more wisely and wasting less of it. I want to work on projects the same amount all the way through and not leave myself with tons of stuff to do at the very end. Working consistently should make this semester a little easier especially towards the end. I also want to keep up with my readings for all of my classes and not allow them to build up.

By far my weakest strength in the architecture program is sketching. I am horrible at drawing and sketching things free-handed so I just don't do it. I know there is value in sketching and I want to become better at it.
